In 1954, the young talent born in Rembau, Abdul Ghani Minhat, made his first appearance wearing the Selangor jersey. Over the following 17 seasons, Ghani carved his name as a legend, eventually earning the title ‘Raja Bola’ (King of Football) when he became the all-time top scorer for the team with 221 goals, while also helping Selangor secure 15 Malaya Cup trophies (Malaysia Cup) and FAM Cup. The construction of Merdeka Stadium during the independence of Malaya in 1957 also witnessed Selangor making this historic stadium their main arena for nearly 40 years.
