After a trophy drought of Malaysian Cups since 1986, Selangor returned to the national football stage by clinching a hat-trick of Malaysian Cup victories from 1995–1997, with a barrage of goals from Azman Adnan and the contribution of a rotating pair of foreign strikers. The relegation to the lower league twice in 1998 and 2003 slightly hindered Selangor’s early success in the millennium, where they secured championships for three consecutive years - Premier League Title 2000, FA Cup 2001,and Malaysian Cup 2002.
