Selangor FC U23 Finishes In 4th Place In Piala MFL 2023

Selangor FC's under-23 team finished fourth in the 2023 MFL Cup Champions League with 10 points earned from four victories, one draw, and one defeat.

The U23 squad finished first in Group B of the MFL Cup, with 22 points earned from six victories, four draws and two losses. The Red Giants U23 squad finished the season with 32 points from 10 victories, four draws and five defeats.

Abdi Hassan, Head Coach of Selangor FC's U23 squad, stated that there was a lot to learn from his first season in charge to carry into next year.

"From what I've seen, we've progressed well from the start of the season to the most recent match. Selangor allowed players of all ages to compete in the MFL Cup 2023. The team's youngest player is 18 years old, while the average age is 19.6 years old. Despite the fact that we used mostly first-team players in our last three games, they were all under the age of 23. Overall, it was a relatively decent developmental growth for a long-term plan.

"At the same time, we obviously want better results than what we got; this is what we must learn from this season. So far, I am pleased with the development we have achieved from the beginning to the present, particularly with the young players who have been exposed to many more mature and tough games. This great experience will serve them well in the next season," said Abdi.

Throughout the 2023 MFL Cup, Muhammad, the team's 18-year-old player has made the most appearances, 1626 minutes. Then, Aiman Hakimi played for 1,443 minutes, Izrin Ibrahim 1,371 minutes, Haykal Danish 1,197 minutes and Faiz Amer, the team captain has played for 1,187 minutes, making them the top five players with the most appearances this season.

According to team statistics, the U23 squad has scored 28 goals in 19 matches. Izwan Yuslan scored four goals to become the team's leading scorer. Danial Asri, Rauf Salifu, Izrin Ibrahim, and Haykal Danish each had three goals. Then came Adim Muzahhir and Syahir Bashah, each with two goals. Devessharaja Sathiamoorthy, Harith Haiqal, Faiz Amer, Khairi Suffian, Daniel Edzuan, Muhammad, Adam Haikal, and Amirul Izwan have all scored once for the Red Giants B23 squad.

On the other hand, Izwan Yuslan has made five assists for the team, making him the top assist for Selangor U23. Adam Haikal, the team midfielder has contributed four assists for the squad, came next. Then, Haykal Danish had three assists, while Muhammad had two assists. Other than them, Ruventhiran, Rauf Salifu, Devessharaja Sathiamoorthy, Raimi Shuhaimi, Adim Muzahhir Izrin Ibrahim, Rahman Daud, and Aiman Hakimi have all contributed one assist in the 2023 MFL Cup.

At the same time, Abdi Hassan's team has kept a 'Clean Sheet' in six matches, conceding only one goal on average.
